The Potter’s Hands

Scripture for today:  II Corinthians 4:8-9 “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”

Have you ever seen a vase being formed on a potter'”s wheel?  Sometimes it begins to wobble and lean from one side to the other.  The Potter then uses his hands to reposition the vase and make it stand straight again.  We too, as clay, need the gentle pressure of our Potter’s hands.  When we are being formed on that wheel we are constantly being pressed and pushed, pulled this way and that.  Sometimes the clay does not seem to cooperate and the Potter is obliged to flatten the clay and essentially begin again!  Sometimes His hands do not seem so gentle but His action in our lives is always what is best for us!

Pressure from His hands is never comfortable but it is necessary in this lifetime process.  I would much prefer being smoothed over with cool water when on that wheel.  But more often, the difficulties in my life seem to push me around and I wonder what He is doing!!  The problem is that I do not see the end result as He does.

Do I trust the Potter’s hands?  Or do I resist His work on me, leaning from side to side in order to avoid Him?  I am confident that He is trustworthy and faithful and the end result of His work will be well worth any discomfort.

Help me Lord, to trust Your hands.
