Devotions By Jan

264752_10151171745815180_50129256_nScripture for Today:  Psalm 51:10  “Create in me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me.”

My father had a beautiful hobby; growing iris.  Each iris had a tag with its name listed:  Black Beauty,  Bandera Waltz, or pictured here, Blush of Pink.  My Father belonged to the American Iris Society and our gardens were part of their local tour!

Most every year my Father would win ribbons and trophies for his iris.  But he would sometimes be recognized as well for a new hybrid of iris that he had created.  He would have the privilege of giving it a name and having it listed with the Society.  That must have been an immense satisfaction for him and I know that his family was proud of him.

When I see an iris I think of my Father.  And when I see and admire the beauty of all creation I think of my Heavenly Father.  His creation reveals who He is: His creativity, His attention to detail, His power and His care.  What is even more amazing about my Creator is that He continues to create.

Our verse for today was a prayer of David’s after his sin with Bathsheba.  He confessed his sin with a prayer that God would create in him a clean heart.  I am sure that God did just that for David because He has promised forgiveness.  David received that new clean heart and his spirit was renewed.

God, my Creator, continues to create clean hearts.  It is just as beautiful a creation as the iris.  And this creation also reveals who He is.  He is the God of second chances.  He can make what is dirty and despicable, clean and white and new.  I know, because He has done it for me!

  1. Dear Jan,
Merci Beaucoup pour tes “devotions”, elles m’encouragent beaucoup !
Je les ai découvertes dans mon “calendrier de l’avent” (ma Mère en avait imprimée et mis dedans),
    & it’s been a real blessing !
J’ai des examens dans quelques jours, et que les montagnes de cours me découragent, je dit :”ah, Sovereign Lord, you’ve made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing’s too hard for you.” (jer.32:17)

    J’espère que tu vas bien,
    rébecca (egly)
