Scripture for Today: II Corinthians 4:3-4 “And even if your gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
The other day we had a beautiful work horse working the vineyards behind the house. A farmer was tilling the soil with a plow behind him. Normally, tractors would do the job, but because that area is so steep, they do it the old fashioned way. It is beautiful to see! It makes me feel like I live in another era!
I took this image off the internet. Although I was very close, the picture I tried to take hanging out my window did not work. The horse just would not look at me. But then he could not see me as he was wearing blinders.
I could not help but think of our verse for today when I thought about those blinders. The god of this world, Satan, has blinded the eyes of those who do not want to believe. Because of their inclination to disbelief, they are unable to even see the light of the gospel, the glory of Christ or the fact that Jesus is God.
Those blinders keep the horses focused. For those that do not believe the gospel, or good news of Christ, they too are focused. They are unable to see anything but their own false reasoning. That is why enlightenment can only come from God’s Spirit.
It is the work of the Holy Spirit to rip those blinders off unbelieving eyes. Thank you, Lord, for enabling me to see!
