Speed Bumps

Bugatti-Veyron-speed-bumpScripture for Today: Isaiah 26:7-8  “The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.  Indeed, while following the way of Your judgements, O Lord, we have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory is the desire of our souls.”

This poor Bugatti Veyron is having some problems.  It is one of the most expensive cars in the world.  It set the record for having the highest top speed of any roadster in the world.  We have seen the factory where it is made in Molsheim, an hour away from us.  But in this picture, it got stuck on a speed bump.

Speed bumps are annoying.  They slow one down and if unseen can do some real damage to a car.  Of course, they are needed for safety reasons.  No one wants cars racing through an area where children are playing, or people are trying to cross the road.

When recently hearing of last minute problems concerning the sale of a house, I thought about life being full of “speed bumps.”  Sometimes we see them coming and can make the necessary adjustments, but sometimes they just take us by surprise.

Our verse for today tells us the way of the righteous is smooth.  The Lord makes our paths level.  And yet, we all have those annoying speed bumps.  We live in an imperfect world and those bumps are inevitable.  But for the righteous, there are some speed bumps that we do avoid; those due to constant sinning.  Disobedience and rebellion make for a very bumpy ride!

Today, I woke up to some of those inevitable speed bumps that had nothing to do with my behavior.  Lord, for Your name’s sake, please be gracious and make my path level!
