This picture makes me smile! It certainly looks as if the man is helping along his wife, but I am wondering if there was some pushing him up on her part as well! In any case, they are helping each other to climb.
My husband is so much more athletic than I am that in our case, it would be him encouraging me up the hill! He knows how awkward I am and he loves me anyway! But the fact that he believes I can do it makes me want to try. Encouragement does that in a relationship. The love chapter in I Cor. 13 says that “love believes all things.” Love believes the very best of the another person. When that is the case, the resulting encouragement can lift us to new heights!
Our verse for today speaks about an encouragement that comes from knowing our future. The context reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice, our salvation and the fact that one day, we will live forever with Him. Being assured of this is an encouragement to keep on keeping on. Not only does it spur us on, but we are to encourage each other with this truth!
There have been times when I wonder if I am able to finish the climb. Slowing me down are times of discouragement, doubt or temptation. Yes, I have the encouragement of His Word. But sometimes I just need a hand up! Thankfully, other believers are there to do that for me.
I am sure I am not the only believer needing a hand from time to time. No one is strong all the time! Lord, show me who needs encouragement today!
