Too Much

Donkey-Pulling-Cart-random-2758106-508-366Scripture for Today: Matthew 11:28  “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

This poor donkey has seen better days!  Granted, he is supposed to be a beast of burden.  But enough is enough.  I wonder if for the people in this photo this is a common sight.  No one looks surprised, not even the donkey!  The only solution for him is to lighten his load.  That burden is just too much!

Sometimes life gets to be too much.  We pile on the extra tasks.  We confidently take on people’s expectations and before we know it, we are in over our heads!  The calendar is too full.  Then on top of all that there are the unscheduled last-minute “have to’s.”  So much of our heavy burden is of our own making.  Being  overcommitted makes life a wearisome chore.

I love our verse for today.  Jesus invites us to come to Him for the rest we need.  He knows when we overdo and are stressed.  One of the first indications of being “heavy-laden” is letting drop our personal time with Him.  He invites us back.  He wants to unburden us.

The following verses explain that the burden we are meant to carry is light because He carries it with us.  Rest for our souls is possible when we give Him say over our schedules.  Taking on the work He gives and doing it in His strength makes all the difference!  My part almost sounds too simple; to come to Him.

He is waiting for me to recognize the weight of my burden.  He sees that I am weary.  He waits for me to come.  With shoulders bowed and slowing steps I come to You today.  Lord, You are the One who lifts my head.
