Justin.s.Shoes_Scripture for Today:  Colossians 3:9-10 “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

This man is mixed up.  Maybe he was rushed getting to work or half asleep from too much partying the night before!  I can just imagine him realizing his mistake at the very minute it was too late to do anything about it!  He can always bluff and tell his co-workers that he meant to dress this way.  In any case, he was sure to draw some unwanted attention to his mismatched feet.

Today’s verse talks about taking off and putting on.  The believer is to take off what he would have normally and habitually done before Christ.  What was an automatic response may not match up with the image of his Creator.  The old patterns of thinking and behaving are now mismatched with the new self.  Those who place their trust in Christ for salvation are now a “new creation.” (II Cor. 5:17)  The old is gone and the new is here!  Where before there was a limited choice of wardrobe (the old self), we can now put on a new mindset, one that is continually being renewed!

My problem is that I often leave the house “mismatched.”  I will start my day intentionally putting off what displeases the Lord.  I then continue my day trying to live independently of Him.  Old habits and familiar ways of thinking  sometimes just feel more comfortable.  It is too easy to slip into the old ways.  I have His new nature but sometimes my old nature is showing as well.

Lord, renew Your new nature in me today.  Don’t let me live life mismatched!
