Magnetic Attraction!

2nd magnet blogger-image--414123680Scripture for Today: Galatians 5:16-17a “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.”

No matter how hard these student try, they cannot get these two magnets to come together.  They are learning about the difference between the poles.  Of course, each magnet has a South Pole and a North Pole.  Like poles will always repel each other while opposite poles will attract one another.  Everything depends on the orientation of those poles.

Today’s verse has two diametrically opposed forces; the Spirit and the flesh.  Normally, they are similar to those two like poles repelling each other.  The desires of the flesh are incompatible with the desires of the Spirit of God.  The flesh is all about gratifying whatever whim and desire it feels.  Whatever feels good, whatever brings temporary enjoyment and satisfaction is the priority.  Whether it is ease, pleasure, comfort, or excitement, the flesh caters to the senses.  It is a strong force and determines many of our choices.  The problem is that gratifying sensual desires is not in line with what the Spirit wants to do in a life.

The Spirit of God desires to give a full and abundant life.  Following the Spirit is life and peace as I acquiesce to His way of doing things.  Rather than having my fleshly desires dictate my behavior, my goal is now to please Him!  When I am walking by His Spirit, the flesh is relegated to its proper place.  Instead of my flesh repelling me from His presence, I can enjoy a closeness with Him.  He becomes a strong irresistible attraction!

Lord, keep me close to You today, walking by Your Spirit.
