biker babyScripture for Today: James 4:6 “But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'”

How cute this unlikely scene is!  This sweet toddler can barely walk let alone drive a motorcycle or sign his name to a ticket!  But maybe he is learning early some valuable lesson.  Who knows?  Maybe he will have an easier time later respecting authority and admitting guilt as an adult.

Our American friend living in Switzerland got ticketed for speeding there.  How unusual the question must have seemed; “Sir, do you admit you were speeding?”   When he did, the officer informed him that had he denied it, his fine would have been more expensive!

Today’s verse describes those who are the recipients of God’s grace; the humble.  The Lord just wants us to come clean with Him.  But it takes humility to admit when we are wrong.  There are always reasons for what we did.  There are always extenuating circumstances.  It was really not our fault.  Others had a part after all.  We really did not mean for it to happen.  We are experts at rationalizing our behavior.

How can God give us grace when we are not wrong?  How can He shower us with forgiveness if we do not think we need it?  It is my pride that keeps me standing when I should be kneeling.  How ludicrous it is for me to ever think that I do not need His grace!  What a slap in the face it is to my Lord to have that kind of pride.  He not only opposes my pride but my attitude keeps me from all kinds of gracious blessings from Him.  Oh that I would see my sin as He does.

Lord, please be gracious to me today.
