Fighting the Current

Balinea-Thermen_1170x385-ID5416-0309ef03680748d835a07f009a37c785Scripture for Today: Rom. 12:2  “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

One of the reasons I enjoy this particular German Bath in Bad Bellingen is the circular section in the middle.  The jets are positioned in such a way as to create a strong current.  The motion of the current moves one around in a lazy circle.  There is no effort to moving.  It is so relaxing to be held up by the swirling waters.  No one tries to go in the opposite direction.  The idea is to be swept along and enjoy the ride.  The only problem comes when trying to exit the circle.  Entering poses no problem, but leaving sometimes takes several tries!

Our verse for today teaches us to resist conforming to the pattern of this world’s thinking.  Those who are fully committed to living for the Lord will not copy the behavior or customs of the world.  The prevailing standards and cultural norms are a strong current and often diametrically opposed to God’s Word.  It is much easier to be swept along without thought or effort.  Going with the flow is just a lot easier.

There is a way to exit that strong current.  By allowing God’s Word to transform our thinking, we will able to discern and follow God’s way.  Unlike the swirling waters of popular thought, His way is always good for us.  His plans for us are perfect and pleasing.  It takes a renewed mind to fight the current of the world’s way, but oh how worth it to be in His perfect loving will!

Lord, transform my thinking by Your Word.

Look familiar?  This is a summer re-post due to ministry schedule.
