dust-monitoringScripture for Today: Jeremiah 17:13 “O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away from You will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water.”

I do not keep my car as clean and pristine as my husband does.  Without his attention, my car would be the one covered in dust with some snarky comment like, “clean me!”  I would count on the rain to wash away the dust, but rain is a rare event in Southern California.  In any case, excuses are not needed with a husband who actually enjoys washing off all that dust.

Today’s verse talks about dust with names written in it.  These are the names of those who turn away from the Lord.  They are put to shame by having their names written there.  Because they have forsaken Him and turned away from the spring and source of living water, they are covered in dust.  Rather than being cleansed by His purifying water, they continue in their sin and shame.  Those who trust in man rather than the Lord are like a bush in the wastelands, or like parched desert and salt land (verse 6).  What a contrast to those who trust in the Lord!   They are likened to a tree planted by a stream with no fear of drought (verse 8).

Dry and dusty is just how my soul feels when I neglect my Source of living water.  He cleanses and refreshes me every time I return to Him.  Without Him, it takes no time at all to get dirty and dusty in my walk.  But thankfully, like He did for the disciples, He washes my feet with His forgiveness!

Thank you Lord, for washing off all that dust.  Keep trusting You today.
