Shadows

Scripture for Today:  James 1:17 “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”

The changes in light can make for some interesting photography, one of my husband’s passions.  Shadows add depth and interest to any photo.  When shadows shift and change, the whole look and mood of a scene changes.

With the Lord there is no changing or shifting shadows.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever!  (Hebrews 8:13)  Everything I learn about who He is in the Bible is true today and will be true tomorrow.  He is the same powerful and miraculous God!

We however, are constantly in a state of change.  Our circumstances change, our thinking changes and our abilities change with age.  My emotions change with the weather!  I agree with the quote, “There is nothing permanent except change.”  But it is not true when we speak of our Heavenly Father.  He does not improve with age.  He does not change His plans for us!

It is a comfort to know He does not change.  There is security in this assurance.  I do not serve a capricious God.  He will always be true to His word and to who He is.  I do not have to worry if He will be faithful or not, holy or not, just or not.  I can ALWAYS count on Him.  The fact that there is no shadow of turning with Him means that He is worthy of my trust and confidence tomorrow as well as today.

Thank you, Lord for being who You are and for always being true to Yourself!

  2. I loved forwarding this on to my 16 y/o granddaughter, Melody, who is experiencing some “best friend” betrayal and hurt, major disappointments. She is being gracious, forgiving, and loving, but still is hurting. This devotion is exactly what I was talking about with her this morning while at Starbucks. Then came home to “Shadows”. You never cease to bless me!! Thank you. I love you. xo
